Event - Singapore Writers Festival - 14-15 November 2026

I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be appearing at the Singapore Writers Festival in November. Thank you to the Centre for Stories for this wonderful opportunity as part of my Mid-Career Fellowship.

I will be speaking on a panel and also presenting a workshop. The details of both and booking links are below.

See you in Singapore!

Threads That Bind Us: Panel Event - Rachel Smythe, Caris Avendaño Cruz and Emily Tsokos Purtill, moderated by Maisie Cheong

Saturday 14 November 1pm-2pm, Asian Civilisations Museum

What makes readers fall in love with a story? Often, it’s not just the plot, but the intricacies of the relationships at its heart. The people around us shape who we become. From family expectations and friendships to romance and found family, this panel discusses what makes connections feel real and meaningful on the pages of compelling stories.

Emily Tsokos Purtill’s participation in this programme is supported by Centre for Stories.

Family, Memory and Inheritance: Crafting Multigenerational Stories with Emily Tsokos Purtill

Sunday 15 November, 4:30pm-6:30pm, Asian Civilisations Museum

Family stories come to us in fragments: silences, myths, photographs, half-truths. This workshop asks: how do we turn them into literature? Drawing on her own experience tracing Greek-Australian identity across continents and time, Emily Tsokos Purtill guides participants through the craft and ethics of writing family stories. Through guided discussion and short exercises, the session explores how to move beyond autobiography and shape personal and cultural inheritance into resonant, emotionally truthful narratives.

Participants will leave with new tools for balancing fact with imagination, navigating memory and omission, and finding the story within the silence.

Each participant gets a complimentary Moleskine notebook.

Emily Tsokos Purtill’s participation in this programme is supported by Centre for Stories. This programme is kindly supported by Moleskine.
